Title: Coboundaries and a maximal inequality for some non-conventional ergodic averages
Abstract: We will present some of results obtained on the non-trivial problem of the convergence of some nonconventional ergodic averages. These include results of H. Furstenberg, H. Furstenberg and Katznelson, J.P. Conze and E. Lesigne, J. Bourgain, T. Gowers, B. Host and B. Kra, T. Tao, T. Austin and M. Walsh (to name a few). We will also present some of our results on the pointwise convergence of these nonconventional ergodic averages. The technical details of our results will be given in two talks during the workshop (Friday and Saturday from 2:00pm to 2:30 pm).
The last fifteen minutes of the talk will be devoted to the history and achievements of this yearly workshop that started in the summer 2002.
