    Employment Opportunities For Undergraduates

    Due to the current budgetary constraints, there are no jobs open for the 2011-12 Academic Year.

    Math Help Center

    The Department sometimes hires several undergraduates to work in the Math Help Center. This work consists of individual and small group tutoring, primarily in Math 110 through Math 233 during the Math Help Center hours. Assignments are generally for 4 or 7 hours per week beginning around the second week of the semester and lasting through the last day of classes. Applicants must have taken or be taking Math 233 or higher and must have satisfactory grades in these math classes. The stipend is currently $463 per semester for 4 hours per week and $810 per semester for 7 hours per week.

    Undergraduate Paper Grader

    Sometimes undergraduates are hired as graders for undergraduate mathematics courses. An assignment involves working either up to ten hours a week with stipend $1000 for the semester, or up to five hours per week with stipend $500 for the semester.

    A successful applicant will:

    • have a good record in mathematics courses up to, and preferably beyond, the one for which the applicant might grade;
    • be able to work throughout the entire semester;
    • have a valid e-mail address that is checked regularly;
    • be able to pick up and drop off papers at Phillips Hall at least weekly;
    • have the ability to grade carefully, accurately, and fairly.

    Applications are available in the main Mathematics Department office (Phillips 329) and the Undergraduate Program Office (Phillips 356).
